| Trade Deadline: Tigers on prowl for Carlos Beltran, starting pitching | 07.14.11 at 1:23 pm ET |
The Tigers have some interest in Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran, according to a tweet from FOXSports.com’s Jon Paul Morosi. Detroit, which leads the AL Central by half a game going out of the All-Star break, has not been able to get quality production from its outfielders in 2011 with Brennan Boesch being the only outfielder on the active roster with an average higher than .260.
However, Morosi adds that the Tigers are focusing more on acquiring starting pitching than an outfield bat. He mentions that the Royals with Jeff Francis (3-10, 4.60 ERA), Astros with Wandy Rodriguez (6-6, 3.52) and Brett Myers (3-9, 4.88) and Cubs with Ryan Dempster (6-6, 5.01) as potential trade partners but states that Detroit hasn’t had “serious dialogue” with any of those teams.
The Tigers rank 11th out of the 14 AL teams in team ERA (4.27), a stat that would be much worse if it wasn’t for Justin Verlander‘s mark of 2.15.
