| Trade Deadline: Jason Giambi quad injury to hurt trade chances? | 07.26.11 at 11:41 am ET |
Rockies pinch-hitter/first baseman Jason Giambi left Monday night’s loss to the Dodgers with an apparent quad injury and could be headed for the disabled list, according to a report by Troy Renck of The Denver Post. Not only would the injury hurt Giambi’s playing chances but also his chances at being traded to a contender, such as the Phillies.
Renck notes that Giambi doesn’t want to leave Colorado but if the Rockies continue to sit well out of the playoff race in the NL, then he might leave for the right price. Plus, Renck says there is always the possibility that he could leave via trade and return in the offseason.
Giambi had a .962 OPS and hit 10 home runs in 96 at-bats in mostly pinch-hitting duty for the Rockies this season before going down with the quad issue.
