| Nuggetpalooza: A few more depressing Sox stats | 09.19.11 at 1:52 pm ET |

A few notes for the Tobin Bridge gang before the Red Sox get underway on Monday:
—————————————————————————————————————————–
* – The Red Sox have not had a starter go more than seven innings in their last 33 games. Their last to get at least 22 outs in a start was Tim Wakefield back on August 14 in a 5-3 loss to Seattle. It’s their longest such streak since at least the start of last season:
33 – August 16-current, 2011
22 – April 29-May 22, 2011
20 – April 4-April 26, 2010
—————————————————————————————————————————–
* – In September, Red Sox starters are 4-8 with a 6.20 ERA, 29th out of 30 major league teams. Only Pittsburgh (6.33) is worse. They’ve allowed a .290 average (27th), .825 OPS (26th), and 16 stolen bases (last) in 18 attempts. The bullpen is 0-5, 5.73 in September. Only Atlanta’s pen has more losses (6) and three teams’ pens (A’s, Indians, White Sox) have higher ERA’s this month. They’ve thrown an AL-high 70.2 innings this month, walked an MLB-high 38, and allowed an MLB high 11 home runs.
Overall, their staff ERA of 5.98 this month ranks 29th in the majors and would easily be the club’s worst September ERA ever:
5.98 – 2011
5.01 – 1996
4.93 – 1993
Not only that, but this September’s staff ERA so far is higher than any month EVER by the Red Sox:
5.98 – September, 2011
5.90 – April, 1980
5.88 – June, 1994
5.87 – July, 1962
5.85 – July, 1961
—————————————————————————————————————————–
* – Matt Albers’ 7.96 ERA since the all-star break would be the third highest ever by a Red Sox pitcher with at least 20 relief appearances after the break:
7.96 – Matt Albers, 2011 (24 appearances)
7.52 – Craig Hansen, 2006 (27 appearances)
7.33 – Mark Clear, 1983 (26 appearances)
7.27 – Manny Delcarmen, 2009 (29 appearances)
He’s got a ways to go to pass the all-time worst post-break relief season when Cleveland’s Paul Assenmacher posted an ERA of 12.91 in 22 appearances after the break in 1999.
—————————————————————————————————————————–
* – Dustin Pedroia is 0 for his last 13 with runners on base and two outs since his three-run double against Texas back on September 3. In those situations when the score is within three runs either way, he is 0-4, striking out all four times, since September 8.
—————————————————————————————————————————–
* – When trailing in games this month, Ellsbury, Scutaro, and Ortiz have combined for a .388 average. The rest of the team is hitting a combined .205 when behind in September and are 5-40 (.125) with runners in scoring position.
—————————————————————————————————————————–
Let’s get at least a split today boys.
