Rays’ Luke Scott rips Red Sox fans 02.29.12 at 8:59 pm ET
By WEEI

Rays outfielder Luke Scott ripped Red Sox fans. (AP)

Luke Scott was unable to play for the Orioles in the final game of the 2011 season. Even so, when Baltimore beat the Red Sox to complete the biggest September collapse in major league history, Scott — now a member of the Rays — was elated.

Scott told MLB.com that he took immense satisfaction in being on the team that ended the Red Sox’ season owing to his contempt for Sox fans.

“[Red Sox] fans come in and they take over the city. They’re ruthless. They’re vulgar. They cause trouble. They talk about your family. Swear at you. Who likes that? When people do that, it just gives you more incentive to beat them,” Scott told the website. “Then when things like [the last game of last season] happen, you celebrate even more. You go to St. Louis — classiest fans in the game. You do well, there’s no vulgarity. You know what? You don’t wish them bad.”

Scott described an Orioles clubhouse that celebrated the victory like it had won the World Series, and then took the celebration to another level when the Rays won on a walkoff homer over the Yankees to eliminate the Sox.

“We’re like, ‘Go home Boston! Pack your bags. See you next year,’” Scott told the website.

“I got to see a priceless thing driving back to my apartment,” Scott continued. “I see all the Boston fans walking around, and I mean they were crying crocodile tears. … It was like someone shot their dog. I rolled down the window and I’m like, ‘Ah, hah, sucks doesn’t it, when someone laughs or makes fun of you when things aren’t going your way.’”

While one might think that Scott’s outspoken criticism would make him vulnerable to anger from the Sox or their fans, it is worth noting that the outfielder — whom the Rays signed to a one-year, $6 million contract for 2012 — carries weaponry in the clubhouse.

haha, strange statement from a professional athlete. Don’t most teams tell their players to shut up about stuff like this? Makes him look like a little spiteful child.

  • Dsnedecor1

We live in Oregon, and as Red Sox fans we catch the games in Seattle. Whenever we have visited Safeco field, even in our Red Sox outfits, we have been very polite and friendly to the great Ushers.  They always are kind to us and so helpful. They thank us for visiting their Ball park. It has always been a pleasant experience.

  • idiot

hey luke scott you play for the orioles where nobody cared.

  • Playgroup5

Have visited Baltimore and always been respectful of the home fans and their park. What kind of a full grown man professional athlete yells out the window at red sox fans? So childish

  • Anonymous

why do red sox fans care what this dink thinks?

  • george scott

Everybody knows the fans are the worst, I think the Orioles have more world series championships in the last 89 years then the sox. Wasn’t it the Orioles that beat the sox out of the playoffs? I guess Luke scott has the last laugh.

Someone should point out to Mr. Scott, that a lot of those Red Sox fans are FROM Baltimore. Most of which root for the Sox because their home town team hasn’t been very much. Wait until he sees the trop as a member of the Rays. Rays fans are just about as friendly as he claims Sox fans to be.

  • Mike66r

    Wow, what a loser.

  • Upinmaine

come on you guys how can you sit here and critize him for saying that ?  red sox fans behave like that …they do . instead you should be embarassed for it …i am ….red sox fans march around with this sence of entitlement ….he only said the truth….athough i do find it very funny that they fill up camden yrds with sox fans , in fact love it …..just dont act like soccer hooligans in europe …
when you outta the city… remember boston is the athens of north america , try to act somewhat cultured

  • http://www.facebook.com/b1galbos89 Alex Big-Al Breton

Hey George, you know nothing. Who cares what you have to say moron.

  • None

And I bet the second the second the Sox go calling for his series he’d sign in a minute if they offered him the most money, then we are the best fans in the world.

  • None

wow, wish I could edit that comment

  • Gazzzmann

Luke Scott has been in the majors for 7 years and for 7 years he’s been a looser Houston and  Orioles he must be very proud

  • Carl

Hey SOX fans, the game is played on the field. The final score tells the tale. The Rays owned Boston in 2011 and will do so again in 2012.

  • Danny

    Who?

  • Eric

Strange comments.  I make the trip from CT to Baltimore every year and have never seen anything like that.  In fact, most businesses and people are happy when the Sox and Yankees come to town because its such a boom to the economy.   If the O’s fans supported their team more and showed up at games, Sox fans wouldn’t be able to go to games as freely and cheap as it is.

  • Carynewborn

    not even close

  • Cal Ripken

I’m a Red Sox fan and I’m nothing but respectful to fans of the opposing team. Nice job by Luke Scott and the entire Orioles organization of being completely prejudice, unprofessional, jealous, and spiteful towards the Red Sox organization. They did it all year, even before the season started. Everyone from the teammates such as Kevin Gregg up to the manager Buck Showalter.

It’s pathetic that the highlight of their whole season was keeping the Red Sox out of the playoffs. In case they don’t realize it, it took much more than the Baltimore Orioles to keep the Red Sox out of the playoffs. The Red Sox beat themselves. The Orioles just got beaten by everyone in the league and didn’t even come close to the playoffs. Not really sure why they’re celebrating a failure of a season being dead last in the division.

I used to feel bad for them in way but now seeing their attitude they deserve to lose. Biggest bunch of jealous, immature, unprofessional losers I’ve ever seen. They should be ashamed of themselves.

  • Nick Dingus

He’s just bitter because his boyfriend is a Sox fan and he didn’t get his man love that night.

  • hah

hah.  who cares what this guy thinks?  he might as well play for a minor league team.  maybe the orioles could win the AAA world series.

  • Jordan

Who the hell is Luke Scott?

  • Struts215

.220 9hr no room to talk.

  • James Rosti

at least we pack the stadium and care..not leaving for fish tacos after the sixth inning -like San Diego

  • Mike

Given that Scott plays for the O’s and now the Rays, I’m guess he doesn’t have much experience with fans who root *for* his team.

  • Chris Nilan

    that’s because you’re a poosie
    Thanks for listening,
    Chris

  • Chris Nilan

lol. what? you are a deuche bag dude.
    Thanks for listening,
    Chris

  • Jimmy Hayes

and $6 million a year? wtf?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241640854 Conor Gallivan

Luke Scott is a moron. He doesn’t think Obama was born in the US. He believes Ted Nugent represents what’s right about America. You know what? I’m more proud that he’s a Sox hater. I wouldn’t want someone that moronic spewing the same garbage about ‘respecting the opponent’ considering he doesn’t even respect the President. Here’s to hoping he makes Manny look like a MENSA member in Tampa.

  • Mjc2370

Scott described an Orioles clubhouse that celebrated the victory like it had won the World Series, and then took the celebration to another level when the Rays won on a walkoff homer over the Yankees to eliminate the Sox.

And this my friend is why you always be a loser

  • Bbgriswold

Who? who the hell is luke scott?

  • qtrback12

Wait a minute here……..let’s this mini mind understand one thing, if it weren’t for the red sox fans and/or the yankee’s fans, the camden yard seats would be empty when they played.  Sorry for taking over your beloved city and stadium but your team sucks and the Baltimore fans don’t even want to see you play .  Maybe if the Orioles were actually good, us red sox and yankess fans wouldn’t be able to buy tickets.  Now the statement that came out of this mini mind’s mouth ” “[Red Sox] fans come in and they take over the city. They’re ruthless.
They’re vulgar. They cause trouble. They talk about your family. Swear
at you”….well i’ve been to camden yard mulitple times for sox orioles games and the only idiots i see causing trouble and getting arrested are orioles fans.  So put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Then he states Scott described an Orioles clubhouse that celebrated the victory like
it had won the World Series, and then took the celebration to another
level when the Rays won on a walkoff homer over the Yankees to eliminate
the Sox.  “We’re like, ‘Go home Boston! Pack your bags. See you next year,’” Scott told the website.  I have one question, where did the orioles finish in the standings and where did the team go the next day, HOME.  At the end of the day, who is this idiot anyway?  Sorry this article really got me riled this morning……GO SOX!

  • qtrback12

George, are you even a sports fan or just a lone wolf locked in mommy’s basement?

  • chico walker

    Who?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4ONKYIEYC74HXOPEAALUR3JGPE russell d

    Luke WHO ?????????????????

  • Jay311

If the. Red sox fans didn’t go to Baltimore, they wouldn’t have anyone at the games or spending money helping boost their economy. That douchbag should be greatfull that anyone wants to see him play.

  • Socline

Are yOu serious? Grow up Luke Scott!! You sound like you are still playing T-ball! Yes red sox nation is passionate about the team. Yes some people act like high school bullies but to put us all in one basket is screwed up. That would be like saying all ball players are immature jerks just because you and a few others are.

  • CapeAnn

     He’s correct.
The Red Sox fans are rude, two faced and can be down right nasty.
They are the most uneducated fans going.

  • CapeAnn

    Thank you Orioles!

You defeated the “greatest team ever” according to the Boston Press during the last series of the season.
This over rated bunch of multi millionaires who thinks all they have to do is show up and the other teams have no chance got what they deserved.

The Red Sox collapse was the most entertainment this baseball fan has had in years.

  • adamsman

Scott has played in front of home fans that just don’t care about thier team iguess that is why he went to tampa. To say that all sox fans are vulgar and rude is to say all mlb players juice. It shows a lot about his character when he paints such a broad brush. He seems like such a bitter man, maybe because he has lost wherever he has played or never reached his potential as a player. It is also laughable to hear him say the orioles celebrated like they won the world series when they finished in last place, says a lot about the players and the organization!

  • Anonymous

Apparently Mr Scott doesn’t get a whole lot of noise out of empty seats, which he usually got every night in Baltimore. So he will be used to it in Tampa also.

  • Luke Who?

You’d think he’d enjoy playing some home games in front of fans – even if they are rooting for the opponent – since the Orioles don’t have any of their own.

  • Anonymous

BTW……The Baltimore economy thrives when Sox and Yankees fans are in town. We pay a premium on hotels and tickets (check the numbers) and airfare when we are in town. It’s a fun place on the water with lots of restaraunts and drinking establishments (no cars needed). We are just enjoying ourselves. Boston could be like that if they ever put a new Fenway on the waterfront. A park near South Station would be great.

  • Glennmacdonald

Are the Orioles still in the American league? Have fun dude.

  • Anonymous

Scott ……your nothing but a journeyman in the making. Can’t wait until your in Fenway this year.

  • CapeAnn

If Scott played for the Red Sox he’d probably bat .300 every year thanks to Fenway.
He’d also be loved by the moonbats in Boston

  • Eduff56

Who cares what a .230 hitting part time Dh thinks, he’s lucky he got a contract…..but I wouldnt be surprised to see him get dusted in Fenway after these typically ignorant comments

  • just another guest

can’t disagree with him regarding some fans; but that type of obtuse behavior can be seen at all levels for all cities and towns. Making a blanket statement to include all Red Sox fans is as infantile and classless as he proclaims Sox fans to be. I’m sure he’d think different were in he in a Sox uniform and saw the real passion behind those who follow the Old Towne Team. Stay down in Florida, where those “fans” come out in droves to watch a game….lol!!!

  • Bhdyer20

Oh yippee the Orioles organization is far superior because they won three championships the last in 1983.  Right that is way way better.  So going with your argument over the last thirty years the Red Sox have more titles than the Orioles.  Aren’t you the same idiot that keep telling Sox/Boston fans to let go of the past ten years and what counts is what happens now.  Last I checked Scott has played his whole career for teams with dreadful losing records.  You think he gets the last laugh based on that?

  • CapeAnn

And that Red Sox last year was the most entertaining sports moment in a long time..

“The Greatest Team Ever” is what the Boston press claimed.

    I’m still laughing

  • CapeAnn

Red Sox fans in general are in fact rude and not very well liked.

Like the team, they just think their better than everyone else.

I’m sure the rest of baseball was quietly cheering for Tampa to catch them last year.

    And they did.

  • REMY

Maybe if more Oriole fans, Rays too for that matter, would support their team, not so many real baseball fans would be sitting in your seats rooting for the Boston Red Sox.  Maybe it’s just you Luke “the never was” that keeps your fans away.  It’s a great compliment to Red Sox Nation when another player or team hates us.  It means we have their attention and beating us is rare.

  • Moreoofu04

Same here!!!!  Although I did get into a discussion with some Angel fans in 2007 at Angel Stadium after an Angel sweep of a 3 game series.  They were telling me it was their year and I first reminded them that Papi was not playing and they need to prove they can beat the Red Sox in the playoffs before they can talk.  Well, the rest is history as the Sox swept the Angels in the 2007 playoffs.  I wish I had gotten some phone numbers but I bet they remembered our conversation at the right time.

  • CapeAnn

It’s when the fans and the Boston press calls the team “The Greatest Ever” that ballplayers in other cities are annoyed.

The “Greatest Team Ever” didn’t live up to it did they?

  • ricky hederson

The interesting thing here is why would Sox fans be cocky anyway? They win 2 titles in 89 years, they haven’t made the playoffs in 2 years , the last time they made it they were swept by the angels. Last year they were the laughing stock of baseball. This team is going nowhere for years to come

  • Steve

This coming from a guy who hit .220 last year and .264 lifetime.  Uh oh – his home runs have gone up each year (except last since he missed over half the season).  Hmmmmmmm . . .

This guy is simply a mediocre player showing why he’s mediocre – he’s more concerned about what drunken fans think than . . . ahem . . . working on his HR numbers.

  • http://twitter.com/THEMUDVILLE9 MUDVILLE NINE

All the teams have ruthless mean fans…. Get over it..  Just keep rollin over on those two seamers and changes running away out to second.  Have a good year cracka

  • XXX

I agree with Scott.  The way some fans behave is an embarrassment to all Red Sox fans.  Passion is one thing, but we should always be civil and polite.

  • Kdotmdot

Luke, people yell at you because you were exposed as a racist nazi in an espn article a year ago, not because we’re from boston.

  • Graywolf75

Who???  This is news??….so he’s gone from the Orioles, whose stadium is only filled when the Sox or Yankees come to town, to Tampa Bay, whose stadium is only filled when the Sox or Yankees come to town.  He only wishes he could play for the Red Sox.  what a child.

  • Graywolf75

Oh and BTW chump….the vendors and shop owners LOVE Sox fans.  without them, they’d be collecting unemployment since Orioles fans….do they exist?…don’t support them.

  • Anon

um, their is no such thing as a full grown man professional athlete. All athletes are children, no matter how many years they have been alive.

  • Anon

ok, how many people have died at red sox games? Oh wait, none? Ok please stop talking out of your rear. You just prove you are clueless, probably have never been to a red sox game.

  • http://twitter.com/NorbertoPaulino Norberto Paulino

And Luke Scott is a classy individual… really?? Go hide in your bunker before the government take your guns and stuff.

  • Mascmen7

Conor. Unfortunately for you and our nation Odumba was born in Mombasa, Kenya, never attended Columbia Univ but 1981-83 attended Patrice Lumumba Univ in Moscow where the Russian Academy of Sciences boasted in 1992 that they had trained Obummer to be a communist and atheist and now our nation is on the ropes due to his wild spending. Luke Scott is a Patriot unlike most Boston fans who have destroyed our nation by voting for the lying imposter president and Barney Frank who is responsible for our current housing crisis. Thanks Massachusetts. You sure know how to ruin everything.
