Trade Deadline: Report: Marlins ‘never been more open’ to idea of trading Hanley Ramirez 07.24.12 at 10:52 am ET

The Marlins, one day after making a trade that shook up their roster and one week after reportedly trying to ship Hanley Ramirez to Boston, are still trying to trade the All-Star shortstop, according to CBS Sports baseball insider Scott Miller.

The Marlins, during a much-hyped season in which they relocated to Miami andbuilt a new stadium and signed big names like Jose Reyes, suddenly have turned into sellers after starting the season 45-51, good for fourth place in the NL East. On Monday, the team traded away Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez for a trio of prospects.

Now, Miller says, the Marlins have “never been more open” to the idea of trading Ramirez as the trade deadline approaches one week from Tuesday. Ramirez, who is currently out of the lineup with an infection in his right hand after hitting it with a dugout cooling fan before the All-Star break, is having one of his worst seasons since arriving to Florida in 2006.

The former NL MVP candidate is hitting .246 with 14 home runs, 47 RBIs and 14 steals this season. Ramirez is signed through 2014 and will make $15.5 million in 2013 and $16 million in 2014.

Ramirez isn’t the only name that’s circulating the rumor mill. Josh Johnson was reportedly scouted heavily in his start on Monday night. But, according to sources close with Miller, the Marlins are likely to hang on to the right-handed pitcher for now. Johnson is 6-7 with a 4.14 ERA and 105 punchouts so far in 2012.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports wrote on Tuesday that Marlins closer Heath Bell also figures to be part of trade talks in the next week. Bell, who reportedly was part of the Marlins’ proposed deal for outfielder Carl Crawford last week, was signed to a three-year deal this offseason and the Marlins likely would need to pay off most of that contract if they were to ship him.

Yes. I’ve found more and more that these authors don’t proof read their articles. Furthermore, I’m sick of Brady not getting attention that Manning is getting in the MVP race as he isn’t the “sexy pick”.
Here’s how their numbers stack up:
    Brady: 24 TDs 3 INTs 3299 yards 105 Rating
    Manning: 26 TDs 8 INTs 3260 yards 104.8 Rating
    - If you ask me having 2 more TDs is not as impressive as having 5 less picks. It was also a pretty pathetic performance that Manning cashed in against the POS Chiefs yesterday, but of course I go on to NFL.com and they have a “Peyton Manning Highlights” video up. Disgusting.

Actually Baker he has 3 rushing TDs to Manning’s zero for a total of 27. He leads Peyton in every statistical category except completon %. Lets not forget who has the better defense too. The Broncos rank in the top 3 on Football Outsiders who rank defenses according to all defensive statistics including opponent. And Brady has done it with multiple injuries at TE and receiver. He is also one of the only QBs without a legitimate deep threat which Brandon LLoyd is NOT.

It is rediculous that players are being suspended for ADD medicine. They should contest it on grounds under the ADA…

  • Jack

Who said it was Adderall? They all claim that but since the NFL doesn’t release the reason we have no way of knowing. He looks like a juicer to me.

  • trajan lodge

He has three ints. Do these writers graduate high school?

  • bench warmer

According to D@C, it’s Bellichek who is at fault.

    FOXBORO PED CENTRAL

    Meh

  • Dee-fense, dee-fense!

One of the two best? Jones is easily the best, demanding special attention and still getting there a lot.  With the LBs now turned loose, it will mean lots of one-on-ones for Jones.  Just don’t rush him back. We need this guy at playoff/payoff time.

  • Dee-fense, dee-fense!

Players are allowed to take it. They need a diagnosis, a prescription and to notify the league.  Is there something unfair about that?

  • ghost of Red

Ive had enough of Courtney Lee and Jason Terry. These guys have consistently helped Boston to lose games all season, and now they’re doing it again in the playoffs. Totally unreliable.

  • ghost of Red

In a game where the Celts struggled to rebound all game, why not give Randolph a few minutes. Love Doc but sometimes he seems to just be banging his head against the wall, expecting the wall to fall down, instead of looking for another door.

  • Troll Hunter

The game was there for the taking. Pretty bad when you only score 8 points in the 4th quarter while turning it over 8 times. Is it me or were the Knicks btching about every call? I know the Celts are a bunch of whiners but man New York takes it to a new level.

  • tom

garnet And Pierce do nothing to help this team they are pathetic to watch along with terry pierce had the ball 5 straight times in a row and never pass the ball Results 4 turnovers and an awful three point attempt with no one in side the three point line to try and get rebound
Pierce is so wash up along with terry and garnet followed by the worst coach in the history of the NBA
    Did Garnet play today
    Celtics suck bottom line

  • Gman

No, it’s not you. Not only do the Knicks gripe about every call, they gripe when they go to the hoop and get one finger laid on them. Furthermore, the officials let the Knicks get away with murder in the 4th, which is why the Celts only scored 8 points. This is especially true with Anthony. If the refs called him the way they called KG, he would have fouled out early in the 4th.

  • tom is a butt pirate

Shut up you New York hose bag. Bottom line you are a troll and bad one I might add. You come on here and spew the same garbage night after night. Now go play in the street douch e.

What a debacle. Ghost of Red must have missed how pizz poor Bradley was with turnovers, too busy blaming just Lee who only had one TO. Picking up his dribble which then telegraphs passes. Which tells me nobody that posted before me knows squat about hoops. Piece had too many TO’s down the stretch. One poster identified that Randolph didn’t play, that was right on, dude should have come in to give KG a blow. Bass and Green played well. Everybody else was not good. KG and Pierce couldn’t his the broad side of a barn. Part of the idiot concepts of Doc Rivers, this guy had one good season with a stacked team in 08, he blows, players don’t RESPOND to him anymore. I see nobody before me gave Bradley a hard time for F-ing up the game in the first half. The C’s could have gone up by 10. But dopey Bradley was busy trowing the ball out-of-bounds on a possession, missing a wide open lay-up, but Doc didn’t have the sac to take him out. You know who played well Bass. Bass completely checked Anthony the first half and won’t have big stats to show. Either this website is full of dopes now that Ordway left or the fans know nothing about Basketball. Gone!

  • tom

As long as Rivers is coach the Celtics have no chance because he is awful

  • Yankee27/Knicks

Bottom line the better team won period! Knicks in 5 but don’t be surprise if we sweeeeeep

  • big93mike

Who would have thought that a time would come when you would rather have Jason Kidd taking a three pointer for you than Jason Terry. Does anyone know how old Jason Kidd is? I’m not sure Breen mentioned it. At least the game was close. So since when did it become the standard practice to put homer announcers for Knick games? The Cs didn’t even show up in the second half and still had a chance to win. This can still be a seven game series and probably will be.

  • the truth bites it

    “….if we sweeeeeep”

Really, you play for the team?!? Love the fact you have to now troll for the Knicks because the Sox are in first douch e.

  • fab4ever

He is so pathetic isn’t he! Notice he ain’t harping about #28…..
