Sunday’s Red Sox-Indians matchups: Jon Lester vs. Corey Kluber 08.12.12 at 9:37 am ET
By Jashvina Shah

Jon Lester

Red Sox left-hander Jon Lester will start against the Indians in the final game of the four-game series at Progressive Field on Sunday afternoon.

In his last outing, the 28-year-old threw 6 2/3 innings and allowed four runs in a 6-3 loss to the Rangers. Lester (5-10, 5.36) is on a two-game losing streak. The Red Sox have lost six of his last seven starts.

Boston defeated the Yankees when Lester pitched six innings and allowed four runs in late July. The lefty has not won a start since June 27, when the Red Sox defeated the Blue Jays 10-4. Lester pitched seven innings of four-run baseball in that game.

Lester hasn’t pitched against the Indians since May 25, when he allowed zero runs through six innings in a Red Sox victory.

Corey Kluber, who will be starting for the Indians, has never faced the Red Sox in his career. In two years in the majors, Kluber (0-0, 6.10) has pitched in five games. He has started twice in his career, both times this season.

Both of Kluber’s starts ended in losses. In his last outing, the 26-year-old allowed one earned run in six innings as the Indians lost to Minnesota. In his first start of the season, on Aug. 2, Kluber allowed six runs through 4 1/3 innings to the Royals.

Bring up the rookies from the farm system and let’s see what they can do. Their excitement is always fun to watch and it will give them all a boost to play at the major league level for awhile.

Be forewarned – Henry, Lucky Lucchino, Tom, Ben…ME and the rest of Red Sox Nation do not like this pitching roster and want to see BIG CHANGES IN THIS TEAM THIS OFF-SEASON. Send off Beckett, the pied piper ringleader of the Texas Trio, and Lackey, Buch and Lester will get refocused. No more Dice-K. Go get Felix Hernandez, whatever it takes!!!  Get rid of Gary Tuck, and any other staffer who won’t work with Valentine. Bobby V has impressed the knowledgeable fans with his game management, working with a changing roster of non-starters, and with so many key injuries, and contending with staffers who don’t talk to him. The guy got a raw deal coming into this s***hole. The guy can manage a good ball team. With a healthy ball club, I think he would really show how good he is. OFFENSE – Get this line-up refocused (which should be pretty good with Gonzo, Ortiz, and Middlebrooks all healthy and hitting 3,4,5) to the Red Sox philosophy of plate discipline and those grind-you-down at-bats from 1 through 9. I miss seeing opponents going to their bullpen by the 4th or 5th inning. I’ve had enough of watching this 2012 team trying to get clutch hits to pull out ballgames with 0-2 counts. Lack of plate discipline has been almost as big as the anemic starting pitching.
