3 years sounds like a “plan”.  In Ben we trust?

They brought in another loser. How did he do in Toronto?  Looks like the players, once again, will be running the team.  I give up after 60 years. Will not follow them.  Dick Williams would fail with this team because of the ownership and having a majority of players that are playing for the money only.

Ever hear of the ‘Peter Principle’ ???
JF is a great pitching coach…not so as a manager.
Gonna be a long 2013 for the BoSox !!

How did Francona do in Philly? Enough said

We all know in baseball, managers typically have very little to do with their teams W-L record. He was bad in Toronto because he really didn’t have that good a team, lost 3 starters within a week last year, lost Bautista, etc. Judging him based on that is ridiculous. Tito sucked in Philly, but  wasn’t too shabby here huh?

Like yourself, I think this was a very short sighted hiring, all the Red Sox FO would have to do is their homework, ask Omar Vizquel, Greg Zaun, Simmons & Hamilton the Blue Jays Media guys, after that simple process they would have not hired Farrell, they sound like teenagers, this FO is the most embarassing thing ins baseball, they hired a Jerk because of Lucchion, now they are hiring a Soda Jerk because of the same idiot.  Get Leaping Larry out of Boston and your chances of improving jump 99%.  Unlike you I won’t give up after 62 years of following the Red Sox, they are in my blook, all the old guard are dieing and I will soon follow, but till the end I”ll always root for the Red Sox, I love everthing about them but the FO, what a shame.

He really wasn’t a great pitching coach, according to a poster with a bent for stats, she looked up all the pitchers under his control and found only two (2) that improved in his reign.  that is just another indictment against him, he’s a joke, just ask Omar Vizquel & Greg Zaun, he let the running game lose him 7-8 games, he neglected helping Romo, a real good pitcher who went down the toilet this season because of his neglect.  Nuff said..

Concentrate on better drafting/player development, focus on quality pitching, don’t spend money on over-priced free agents who require long term deals. Get the right pieces that fit the organization, look for unselfish players who put the team before themselves. Give respect and you’ll get it in return.

That’s how you build a winning team.

How did Terry Francona do in Philly before coming to Boston? That turned out ok.
Freddi Gonzalez didn’t do much in Miami either. Like Gonzalez and the Braves, Farrell has a great relationship with the organization. A lot of trust and respect, something Valentine didn’t have. It will be a solid turnaround in 2013.

And Francona was a bigger risk than Farrell. The former really didn’t have an established relationship with the club when he took over. Farrell does. It’ll be like when Freddi Gonzalez returned to Atlanta. I don’t recall him being very successful in Florida/Miami either.

Hiring Farrell?? Be careful what you wish for.

    i agree with you

  • Red Sox 25 (retire Tony C’s #)

It is a long way from Sept 2011 and the next World Series for the Sox.
Ben Cherington has placed his future with the Red Sox in John Farrell’s hands. If they fail, that is do anything short of the ALCS within the next two years, it will be a failure. Giving up Aviles means the Sox gave up on him, maybe he is a problem in the clubhouse, maybe they think his skills are declining, either way they gave up something more than most people thought they should last week.
The first test will be who the Farrell and Cherington select as the pitching coach, and then what the rest of the staff will look like. At the end of the day they need a strong pitching coach and a coaching staff that blends well.
Hopefully Ben C. has been working the phones to be ready to let the trading begin once the WS is over. If he is right the road will be much shorter, if he is wrong it may take a while.

Time will tell. Did he not produce a winning team in Toronto because of player injuries, lack of quality players? Or was it due to his managerial skills or lack thereof? Hopefully the front office will give him a lineup of quality players that are winners, not whiners! That will give him a fair test. Will never give up on the Red Sox after 45 years through thick and thin. To all those abandoning the ship: You’re either a true fan or you aren’t!

Red Sox doing great. Hire Varitek who was team captain but never spoke up against Becket, now hire Farrell who is a loser to placate Pederoa and who couldn’t fix some of the Toronto Pitchers problems and disliked by his players. On top of it give up Avila. Well Red Sox must have a construction business since they have 2 carpenters that can’t pitch. Mr. Henry please sell the team.

I agree with your last statement Dennis. I am a sox fan for life. With that being said, I think they may have made a big mistake and it might keep us down for the next 3 years. I am an optimist and time will tell how this pans out.

Doug, Appreciate your feelings.  I moved out of Boston over 10 years ago (health issues) and have been paying to watch my beloved Red Sox. Was season ticket holder for over 30 years. (many as you know we not good years) The Red Sox will always be in my heart.

I believe you are a better fan than I am for I have a really hard time seeing them just going thru the motion instead of playing & managing the game the way it should be played & managed. Thanks for your comment- Larry

Red Sox are looking at three to five seasons of .500 baseball.  John Farrell will have no impact what so ever Just check the Blue Jay’s records over the last 2 seasons.  Red Sox administration needs to get an identity.
