NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Here we go …

In the huge expanse that is the Opryland Resort (the story goes that a writer logged 16 miles during the last winter meetings here without leaving the hotel) we start things with some Mike Napoli news (click here to read the report), with a live chat chaser. It all starts at noon, so get your questions in now:

Note to baseball writers/bloggers/whatever: Nobody cares about your hotel or where you eat or  how comfortable your shoes are. Just like we don’t care when athletes don’t talk to you after a game. Your platform is not a bully pulpit to vent your personal frustrations.

Hi Rob! I Know the Cubs are looking to Move Garza, would a package of Lavarnway and Brentz interest Theo?

    • The dude

Garza is so overrated.. Enough already with this douche.

  • Chonor0713

Who gives a crap if they were bidding against themselves.  They wanted the guy and went out and got him.

  • Riram44

Brentz is a top prospect. I wouldn’t trade him even up for Garza, let alone have Lavarnway in the trade.

Going into the offseason the Patriots had six major needs (LCB, RT, Slot WR, Outside WR, SS, Interior O Lineman, LE) and they added to a need by cutting Lloyd. They had three big names to consider.

Most important to bring back was Talib, as they need a LCB and they got him back on a perfect one year deal, and for a lot less than the franchise tag. One need filled.

Second most important, was RT and resigning Vollmer. From all the reports that Patriots are going to get him back on the cheap, on a one year deal for a lot less than the franchise tag. They need to bring him back to help solidify the right side of the line. Cannon is needed as the versatile 6th lineman. You build great offenses with QB play and offensive line play. 6’8″ Tackles don’t come along often on the cheap, so the Pats should absolutely resign Vollmer.

Third most important was resigning Welker or replacing him. They have replaced him with a virtual clone in Amendola. So with Amendola they have a slot wr.

Strong Safety fourth most important. Adrian Wilson is exactly what they needed, solid all around strong safety with veteran know how. He is a major upgrade over Steve Lead Boots Gregory. Wilson and Talib adds significant toughness to the backfield.

Fifth, because they cut Lloyd they need an outside WR or two. I like the Emmanuel Sanders option, and they should bring him in. They should also add at least one tall physical wideout maybe in the draft.

Sixth they need to draft a Center or a guard in this year’s draft. They need to continue to build the O Line and adding a player in the second or first round should help to improve the O line for the Pats, which has struggled in the postseason.

Seventh, a defensive end that can play LE in the Pats system. The Seymour role, a guy that can stand up to the run and pressure the QB. Ideally this player is over 300 LB’s and over 6’6″. Hard to find but this year’s draft supposedly has a lot of DE’s so I would take a chance in the first round and try to acquire a LE. Maybe Trade Mallett and use the extra picks to move up to take a guy.

Depth, they could add a big wideout, someone physical. The addition of Jake Ballard and a healthy Gronk will improve their physical play on offense but another option at WR couldn’t hurt.

His Back won’t last that long.

Marcus Cannon. The only Pats lineman to make me think fondly of Nick Kaczur. Fair ball to him for dealing with the cancer, and still being a professional athlete, but this guy just scares the hell out of me.

Then you are a FOOL and have no football knowledge what so ever!!

LOL. Dude Cannon was rated a top 50 prospect out of college…as an OL!

Ya Know with Cannon Svitek and possibly Winston for RT they’ll be ok. Love Seabass….sort of a freak he’s so big. But he’s a big risk with that back and it’s alot of $$ that I think is needed on defense.

  • cfn

Why is it taking so long for Volmer to sign? Is he still hurt? And why has not Edleman signed yet, that seems like a no brainer? You need him for a good back up receiver and returner?

  • dave

Volmer’s probably going to be signed to be somebody’s left tackle–glad to know the Pats have some options. Winston sounds like the best one.

I say let Cannon battle it out for the starting job. If they don’t feel confident, bring in Winston on a one year deal and he most likely won’t disappoint.
