Mike Napoli

According to a report from CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman, the Mike Napoli situation should be resolved by next week at the latest, as the Red Sox and the free agent continue to make progress.

The sides reportedly agreed to a three-year, $39 million deal seven weeks ago, before an issue arose following Napoli’s physical — apparently his hip, although it’s not expected to prevent Napoli from being ready on Opening Day.

Napoli is said to have been in touch with a couple of other American League teams, but the Red Sox appear to be the favorite — assuming the sides continue to move toward an agreement.

I hope this is a good move.

    Meh…

I am ready to move past this long drawn drama….good or bad (I am hopeful they are able to work on a resolution nonetheless). At this point with spring training a few weeks away the dwindling 1st base free agents is slim pickings. So if they have to part ways I at least hope they have enough time to go out and find a quality 1st baseman or even promote within.

Wait a second, how can you be the #1 fan, when I’m the #1 fan. Does not compute.

Hopefully this drama ends soon and turns out well for both the Sox and for Napoli.  My focus is more on the contending teams in Town.

Same as Harlan, I hope this is a good move!

    dump him……

  • Teddyted

I can’t imagine they’d really get him for a one year deal….If they do…even at 15 million that’d be solid

  • Bruinman86

    1-2 years or see ya!

  • Uncali22

Of course the Sox are favorites, who else would give him that kind of money.

  • San Diego Dreamer

Go away, enough already. Make his contract one he can earn with good health

  • Jahal

trade 4 sexy jeter and move him 2 1st base.   owners and pink hats will b thrilled.

    • Nighttrain75

i’m not sure who is worse, pink hats or the people that call them that

if youre upset with anything Red Sox in the past 6 years, and its the color of someones hat, your priorities are really out of whack.

Let the Mauro Gomez era begin!

  • Backfromthedepths

he should sue the team for wasting his time. he could have signed on with another team by now.  sox suck

    • acrossalloceans

I was actually wondering this. Could he in someway say the Sox hurt his free agency options due to this drawn out process.

  • Thomar4

By now the Sox have made it apparent around the league that Napoli is a high-risk long term signing. His history and current physical condition, speaks for itself. Expect higher dollar 1 yr., with possible vesting option for 2014 based games played. Nap is probably not going to do to much better.

  • acrossalloceans

if all the reports are true about this being scaled down to a one year deal, it really makes this that much better. His offense is the obvious selling point, but the two weakest areas (defense & health) really make a one year deal smart.
