FORT MYERS, Fla. — Here is David Ortiz’ first swing of spring training, participating in the round of BP in a hitting group that included Dustin Pedroia, Will Middlebrooks and Mike Napoli.
Ortiz had said earlier in the day he has been hitting for some time, while even testing his right Achilles tendon with some sprints. The official reporting date for position players isn’t until later this week, so it has yet to be seen how scaled back the designated hitter will once things truly get going.
