John Henry is hands-on with David Ortiz 02.13.13 at 4:55 pm ET

FORT MYERS, Fla. — After signing autographs for fans, Red Sox owner John Henry took time out to greet his slugger David Ortiz after batting practice Wednesday at JetBlue Park during Red Sox spring training.

Henry asked Ortiz about the strength of his right Achilles, and how it’s coming along.

“How do you feel?” Henry asked his slugger.

“I feel better, feel better,” Ortiz told his boss. “I was doing that agility drill and it felt good. I was moving around pretty good.”

Moments later, it was Ortiz’ chance to return the favor.

“How are your kids?” Ortiz asked the owner.

“They’re great,” Henry replied, before adding that his family will be joining him in Fort Myers later in the week.

Just moments earlier, it was Henry meeting and greeting the fans, even signing autographs.

I’m sad to say I now question whether John Henry really cares about Ortiz. Or, any other player on the team, for that matter. As a result of his handling of “Valentine versus the clubhouse” diseaster, I can’t help but believe that the players are nothing more than a commodity to John Henry. They are there to make money for him. Other than serving that purpose, they have little value to John Henry.

Give BB the coach a raise and fire the GM BB….Time to let go. Just coach dude. You are the best. Leave the personnel decisions to those who can do it better.

The fact that the Texans and Giants were in the mix was encouraging that there must be something there. Creating competition is not a bad thing and after all this is pro football and the potential injury factor is always going to be there. (Edelman, Gronk, Amedola,…)
Besides, Tom Brady can adapt to any situation as long as they can keep him upright.

Who knows what is in the contract?

LAVELLE HAWKINS – this is what will put the patriots into the super bowl. The best signing of any team this off season.

A lot of stupid comments below–shows how deluded some Pats fans have become: our team’s in the playoffs every year, contends realistically for the SB every year, and actually goes to the SB every other year (almost). Yet “fans” who have never even seen this Hawkins guy (or can’t remember him) think that they know more than BB and his staff. Competition brings out the best in many people, and if it doesn’t, do you really want those players around? The reason that the Pats usually overcome injuries is moves like this Hawkins one, so quit sounding like experts.

It’s also about the agents of nfl receivers that failed to judge the market of that position correctly and cost his client MILLIONS of $$$ if they just would have agreed to a deal BEFORE the free agent period started. Good Luck!
