Shortstop Xander Bogaerts was named the top prospect in the Red Sox farm system, while left-hander Henry Owens occupied the second slot, in Baseball America’s annual top 10 rankings of each team’s farm system.

That Bogaerts was named the Sox’ top prospect for the second straight year came as little surprise. The 21-year-old became the youngest Red Sox big league position player in nearly 40 years when he was called up in August, and distinguished himself as one of the top postseason performers ever at such a young age in a fashion that suggests the possibility of superstardom.

“They may end up making a statue of this guy,” one evaluator said.

Owens, meanwhile, proved unhittable in stretches for High-A Salem and Double-A Portland. He had a 2.67 ERA across the two levels, while holding opponents to a .177 average and more than 11 strikeouts per nine innings.
