A brief look at the action in the Red Sox minor league system on Tuesday:

TRIPLE-A PAWTUCKET RED SOX: OFF DAY

DOUBLE-A PORTLAND SEA DOGS: OFF DAY

HIGH-A SALEM RED SOX: OFF DAY

SINGLE-A GREENVILLE DRIVE: 9-4 WIN AT ROME (BRAVES)

(BOX)

– Outfielder Manuel Margot went 1-for-2 with a stolen base, his 30th of the year. The 19-year-old is one of 24 players in all of minor league baseball with 30 or more steals. Of those two dozen players, Margot is tied for the lead in home runs with eight. Margot is hitting .265 with a .331 OBP and .418 slugging mark.

Margot was replaced by a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the fourth inning, after he’d been involved in a number of plays in the top of the fourth. The reasons were not immediately clear.

– Outfielder Cole Sturgeon went 2-for-6, and the 22-year-old now has reached base in seven of his first eight games since his promotion to Single-A Greenville from Lowell. The left-handed hitter is now 5-for-14 with a double against left-handed pitchers, good for a .357/.400/.429 line against southpaws. Sturgeon is hitting .235/.278/.265 overall in eight contests in Greenville.

SHORT-SEASON SINGLE-A LOWELL SPINNERS: OFF DAY

ROOKIE LEVEL GULF COAST LEAGUE RED SOX: RAINED OUT

DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE RED SOX: 8-3 WIN (11 INNINGS) AT DSL NATIONALS

(BOX)

– Outfielder Yoan Aybar went 2-for-6, his sixth multi-hit game in 12 contests this month. The 17-year-old is hitting .364/.420/.682 with nine extra-base hits this month. He’s part of a high-ceiling wave of position players that currently characterizes the Red Sox in short-season ball joining Lowell corner bats Sam Travis and Nick Longhi, Rookie Level Gulf Coast League infielders Rafael Devers, Javier Guerra and Michael Chavis along with Aybar in the DSL.

Every member of that group is years from the big leagues, but it appears that whereas the strength of the system had been its pitching depth in recent years (albeit with strong — and in some cases elite — position players like Xander Bogaerts, Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley Jr. sprinkled throughout the system), within a couple of years, the depth of the system could end up moving towards the positional side.

– Catcher/third baseman Roldani Baldwin went 2-for-5 with a homer. The 18-year-old has now reached base in 11 straight games, hitting .350/.469/.525 with seven walks and nine strikeouts during that stretch.
