Two of the highest paid Red Sox players will be playing for Triple-A Pawtucket in Buffalo Friday night, as both begin rehab assignments.

David Price was already known, as his first rehab outing with the PawSox was rained out on Sunday, but to keep him on a five-day schedule he threw a simulated game indoors. He’s expected to throw about 90 pitches.

The other will be Pablo Sandoval, who will serve as the designated hitter.

He’s been on the disabled list since the end of April with a knee sprain. The third baseman will fly back to Boston Wednesday night from St. Louis and then travel to Buffalo.

“He’ll begin Friday in Buffalo and DH to begin with and as we’ve done with position players who have had some extended time down, we’ll break him in that way,” manager John Farrell told reporters in St. Louis. “But he’s going to need some games to get into game shape. The fact is he’s done a lot of work to get to this point, some early work again today. And he’s ready to get that rehab underway.”

Sandoval isn’t quite sure how much time he needs.

“I don’t know,” Sandoval said to reporters. “I don’t know how much time I’m going to need. I just want to focus to have a nice rehab and feel healthy. That’s one of the things that I’m looking forward, feel 100 percent to be back on the field and play the game.”
